The message was confusing...but I dearly miss the woman who died water skiing with her family. The pastor mentioned the passage: "The last enemy to be destroyed is death." 1 Cor 15:26 He went on to say someday there will be no physical death. In the next breath he quoted the passage: "We know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him." Rom 6:9 Then he said, "Christ has conquered death."
To that I say, "Amen!"
Now what most Christians fail to put together is that Christ has destroyed the last enemy according to 1 Cor 15.
Thank God for Jesus' completed work on the Cross, that we may never die.
"...and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?” John 11:26
Am I missing something?

Jesse,
I heard about the tragedy on Ennis Lake, but did not know anyone involved.
The only thing I would add to your observations is what Paul says in 2 Timothy 1:10.
"But it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel."
2 Timothy is likely the last epistle Paul wrote, and notice the past tense statement. According to Paul, Jesus "has destroyed" death and "has brought" life and immortality to light through the gospel.
The neat thing about this passage is that it highlights the nature of both the life and death as related to the gospel. Jesus brought life. No one suggests that this is biologically defined, because people were living, biologically before Jesus appeared.
Of course that leads to another question. If Jesus destroyed death (past tense - in Paul's day), then why should we think Paul is talking about the defeat of biological death in the rest of his teaching?
The pastor who led the funeral is contradicting Paul.
The beautiful thing about all this is that, no matter the theological misunderstanding, the woman who was killed that day did not taste death, as Jesus taught regarding those who believe in him. She simply went from this realm to the next...
We can all be encouraged, in spite of the tragedy, by that fact.
Blessings,
Tim Martin
oops..
logged into the wrong account... sorry about that.

Tim,
You and JL are really the same person. I knew it!! LOL
2 Timothy 1:10 is beautiful.
The resurrection: what happened in 70ad concerning those past present and future? I can't bring myself to believe in a bodily resurrection simply because I see all the evidence pointing to a spiritual one.
All the best,
Jesse
Jesse,
Actually there are quite a few post on my blog on this topic. You should check it out.

New Creation,
Thanks for the link.
Your quick to judge the full preterist. BTW punctiliar is a word. Just not a common one.
Also, can't you just love, your condemnation makes me wonder how you are living as a "New Creation".
Debate is fine, but not personal attacks.(a quick look at your blog) What is your eschatological view?
Jesse
